What is an ELCB?

Explain the function of an ELCB with neat sketch

Ans:
Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker or ELCB:

In case of earth leakage either through human body or through poor insulation of the instrument, the current may leak to the earth.  That current is sensed through the help of electronic circuit that operates a relay.  This relay disconnects the supply from the load. Hence the danger of shock is avoided.
Whenever there is no leakage to the earth, the current in phase wire and neutral wire will be equal.  If there is a leakage to the earth, the current in neutral wire will be less compared to the phase wire.  The electronic circuit detects this current difference and this sensor disconnects the supply.
