What do you mean by "Extrusion" of metals?

 Extrusion.
Extrusion is a process in which long solid material is forced through the die-opening by squeezing. The shape of the ‘die-opening’ is the same as that of the cross section of the object to be made. The compressive force on the metal being forced exerts the sheering action resulting in to the extrusion of the desired section. The extrusion process can be either hot or cold. Cold extrusion is at room temperature whereas; hot extrusion is at 50% to 75% of the melting point of the metal being extruded. Cold extrusion process is normally adopted for softer material like aluminium, tin, lead, copper etc. but, is not ruled out for harder materials like steel.
The long straight parts produced may be round, square, rectangular, angles, ‘T’ shaped or many such shapes. For Aluminium Windows, Partitions and Doors the sections used are manufactured by extrusion process. Various sections from steel, copper and other metals are also available in the market.
