Marble
is a porous, calcareous, metamorphic, foliated stone. Granite is non-porous,
igneous, siliceous, unstratified stone. Relatively granite is much stronger
than marble.
Since marble is
porous, it can absorb acids, oils and alkalis used on kitchen platform. Marble
being a calcareous stone reacts with even mild acids like hydrochloric acid. These
can decolour or stain the marble permanently.Hence marble cleaning is difficult
when stained. Also the smoothly polished marble can deteriorate over a period
of time since it is a porous and a relatively soft stone. Marble can also get
chipped easily compared to granite. Hence it is recommended to use granite only
on kitchen platform.
That was interesting to know! I had always wondered why not marble on the kitchen counter. Thanks for posting
